Having a good manager and DOM is the only reason I’ve been successful. Only cretic I have is that more training is needed for Supervisor’s and Manager’s, if you come from an outside company. I’ve been with Stericycle for just over a year and a half, I’m currently a Transportation Supervisor. A typical day was 25-30 stops and unless you skip lunch, hold going to the bathroom, you are not getting them done no matter how many corners you cut on safety. My biggest complaint besides the back breaking work of having to lift 100-150 pound bags of paper was the fact that we were being docked lunch pay when management knew most of us were not able to take a lunch given the number of stops. Even ran into unauthorized locks that one could buy at Menard's were found on many of the containers, I serviced. No communication between the different shred-it offices was one of the causes. Often not having the right "key" to unlock a container / tote, was a common issue. The problem was the lack of resources, tools, etc, with the budget they were given made life for the CSR tough. I never seen an easier management job in my life but they were nice and made you feel like you were part of the team. Supervision / Management would show up when they felt like it in the mornings and often times you would be long gone on your way to your first stop before you could get any problems or issues you might have solved. The other 25% of the time you would get the spinning dial of death and the unit would freeze up or not work at all. You also worked with hand held units that worked only about 75% of the time. moreĪ typical day consisted gathering ripped or worn nylon bags, a broken cart, or not having the right amount or type of totes to service your accounts. Meaning, the previous year the previous drive decided to skip a stop, and the customer complained about it for a year, While nothing was. This same manager avoided calling a customer to fix a situation that I was blamed for even before I was on the route. I have waited for over 4 hours on an issue and never got answer until calling another manager. Then when you have to escalate to another manager for help, you are confronted like you did something wrong for asking for help from another manager. You can call one particular manager and almost guarantee that he will not answer the phone, cause he thinks his drivers will figure it our before they call again. When this happens you need answers immediately. There are times that you would have to call your manage with questions, or concerns, or even asking for guidance on something. You can bring up many issues that you get on an over loaded route, which would be anywhere from 28-48 stops a day. The hardest thing to deal with is a manager that doesn't manage, or listen. I can, and will only speak about my direct manager/supervisor, since he was the one that I was supposed to deal with. Now, what makes the job incredibly hard and difficult is the management, and the lack of communication to the drivers. It's collecting paper, there's not many things easier than that. There isn't too many other opportunities for drivers to get a chance at. It is posted on our website under community shred events so we can help spread the word!
